Top Award

DOP for the Santa Fe New Mexican, Clyde Mueller was awared NPPA's top award in Tampa Bay, Florida. Established in 1949, the Sprague Award is awarded annually to not more than two persons of high achievement in the profession. It is given to those who advance, elevate, or attain unusual recognition for photojournalism by their conduct, initiative, leadership, skill, and devotion to duty. Mueller played a crucial role in creating NPPA's Best Of Photojournalism contest. He has served on the contest's organizing committee ever since. • Helping Steve
Update: Photographic auction raised more than $50K

Since 2004 Rocky Mountain News photojournalist Steve Nickerson has battled a rare autoimmune disorder called Scleroderma. For more than two years, the 48 year-old's body has essentially attacked itself from the inside. Since then, he's lost 65 pounds and spent much of his life in pain.
The condition is possibly fatal, though not certainly - his chances are still unknown, though he vows to fight. To help him pay for the treatments, photographers from around the country are donating prints to be sold in a silent auction in late March at the Oxford Hotel.
Denver photojournalists have been working behind the scenes to organize a print auction and to spread the word within the photojournalism community.
