"I have never worked a day in my life, it has all been fun" G. Gordon Yoder was a Charter Member and life member in the NPPA who joined when the organization was founded in 1946, died October 15, 2004 in Dallas, following an illness. He was 85.
Yoder was born February 24, 1919, and his wife, Irene, and two sons survive him: Gordon Jr., of Jacksonville, AR, and Lee Barton, of Dallas.
"I have never worked a day in my life, it has all been fun," Yoder told a group who was watching a presentation of his life's work. Yoder was retired, and he was a winner of the Sprague Award as well as many other NPPA honors. He was an early support of the Regional NPPA TV News Contests, and in 2000 he and his wife established the Yoder Television Newsvideo Workshop Award with a large donation to the NPPA Foundation (NPPF). The award grants $1,000 each year to a working television news photographer to attend the workshop in Norman, OK.
A third-generation Texan, Yoder was also a life member of the Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers and was a Director of Photography and Life member of the Motion Picture Cameramen's Union.Source: 2004 News Photographer magazine |
