Tragic Turn
Judges' comments:
First: We loved the angle, it made it different and gave all the story info in a graphic way.
Second: Lots of information, a well-done picture.
Third: It had what First did not have: raw emotion.

Judges' comments: Overall, the category seemed to be the weakest of the Region 8 clips for July. Many pictures could have been in the Feature category. First place jumped right out, Second and Third discussion included about five other clips.
First: We weren't crazy about the crop but it had great feeling.
Second: We felt that it had the right elements.
Third: Wanda held out for this one, we hope the bugs aren't quite that big down there.

Judges' comments: Lots of nice stuff in the catgory, if we couild score honorable mentions we could include another four or five pictures.
First: Hey!! Nice shot, we think they should have run it as a horizontal, though.
Second: Great work to show a small portion of a larger scene to isolate action, we also liked the image in the little teaser box.
Third: Nice pic, done a lot, but nice.

Dog Day Afternoon
Judges' comments:
First: Great picture, was the hands-down winner, clean and simple.
Second: For sure it is a Tour de France cliche, but a nice Second Place cliche.
Third: Yeah, we all shoot the jumping dog, that's probably why we picked this one. One we'd love to have.

Cabbies
Judges' comments:
First: In this batch of clips this entry was the best of all and great to see, we are glad to have saved the category for last. The entry covers 14 pages and almost every page has a great picture. Wonderful Work.
Second: Nice story, the photographer wasn't afraid to experiment.
Third: Story about cabbies gave us some insights into people that are invisible to the rest of us.
