Caption should have said more about him to give context. |

Second: Clean, well-composed delightful reaction to the boy's boxing win, tells the story beautifully. Third: Wonderful faces in the fould ball shot. Ca crop from the bottom would add emphasis to the cast of characters watching where this ball lands. |

| Judges' comments: First: Captures a candid school moment of kindergarten relationships. Second: Beautiful pictorial that sets a strong sense of mood. Shot very cleanly but would benefit by cropping from the bottom. Third: Good capture of an anxious moment between student and teacher. Very nice photo from a potentially dull subject. |

| Judges' comments: Each of the winners in this category should have made better use of different camera angles and different lenses to propel readers through their stories. They were strong collections of individual pictures but didn't do enough to explore the relationships of the subjects to their surroundings or each other. The Third place boxing story did this best but First and Second had much more interesting subjects, minor league hockey and substandard housing. | ||||
