Judges comments: First place by DeMocker was a strong image for several reasons and was an obvious choice. The emotion is strong, the composition is good and the light is nice and subtle. A tighter crop on the top and sides may have made this image even stronger. Second place is a disturbing photo but certainly makes readers aware of the dangers of common equipment. The photographer obviously worked the situation carefully in order to shoot so close to the subject and EMT's. The quote is a very nice part of this photo as well. Good job. Third place is a simple photo that shows the chaos of the moment. The father struggling with the bag and the SWAT team in the background make for telling details.
