Judges comments: First place was far the best. A child with no legs is going to make good pictures but Paul Zoeller made a great story about a boy's life. The pictures tell a complete and compelling story. We truly get a feel of this boy's wonderful attitude and his struggle. Well done. Second place was a nice group of pictures. The photographer did a good job with a tougher subject matter. We felt like third place was a good story idea and there were a few nice pictures but the overall effort kept it from becoming great. Almost all the pictures are shot with the same lens from straight on and from the same distance. Give the reader some visual variety. By moving closer or farther and changing lenses a photographer can really make an overall story visually shine.
